Welcome!

You're about to join 40 young people from 8 countries for a week in the Netherlands that you won't forget. Samen Sterker (Dutch for "Stronger Together") is a youth exchange all about learning about each other's cultures and habits, the similarities and the differences. Together we explore these, and from there we learn about building inclusive communities, with a focus on human rights and social justice.

This infopack has everything you need to know. Read it carefully, and if you have questions, your sending organisation and the UYN team are always just a message away.

Each organisation selects 4 participants (18–30 years old) and one group leader (no age limit). Active participation is expected from everyone: all workshops, all sessions, full engagement throughout the week. The group leader is the main point of contact for their country team during the exchange. They are responsible for guiding their team and should have experience doing so. We are looking for motivated people who are ready to learn, connect, and contribute.

UYN — Utrecht Youth Network

Utrecht Youth Network (UYN) is a youth-led NGO based in Utrecht. Our goal is to connect people from different backgrounds so they can grow, take action, and create change together. Connected, to change. Locally we run Utrecht Changemakers and Youth for Peace. We also organise international exchanges.

Fort Penningsveer is part of the Stelling van Amsterdam, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built between 1883 and 1920. It's the only military fortification in the world based on water management principles. That said, it's a very basic group accommodation: think rooms with shared bunk beds, shared bathrooms and simple facilities. Pack accordingly and bring an open mind!

For more information and images of both accommodations, visit: Het Buitenverblijf and De Veste.

The programme: day by day

This youth exchange will probably feel a bit different from what you may be used to, even if you have been on an Erasmus+ project before. We will spend more time outside rather than sitting through long days in a workshop room. Expect an active week with visits to the beach for team building, cultural activities in Amsterdam and Utrecht, and workshops led mostly by the different country teams themselves. The exact timetable will be shared in the preparation meetings, but here's what to expect:

Arrival
Sun · 28 June
✈️ Arrive throughout the day. The UYN team will collect you at Haarlem Spaarnwoude station. Welcome dinner, getting settled, and practical info.
Day 1
Mon · 29 June
🤝 Opening sessions at the fort: getting to know each other, group agreements and an introduction to the week. Afternoon: team building activities on the beach.
Day 2
Tue · 30 June
🌍 First round of country workshops, led by you! Each country team presents a workshop connected to the themes of the exchange.
Day 3
Wed · 1 July
🎉 Amsterdam: Keti Koti. We visit Amsterdam for Keti Koti, a Dutch national holiday celebrating the abolition of slavery in the Netherlands. There is a festival in the city with music, food and celebrations. A meaningful and festive day together.
Day 4
Thu · 2 July
🌍 Second round of country workshops, led by you!
Day 5
Fri · 3 July
⚖️ Utrecht. Visits to different institutions working on human rights and social justice. For example (to be confirmed): the College voor de Rechten van de Mens (Dutch Human Rights College) and Shelter City (Justice & Peace), where you may meet international human rights defenders. The day ends with a community dinner in Utrecht.
Day 6
Sat · 4 July
🔍 Reflection and preparing for dissemination: looking back at the week and getting ready to share what you have learned back home.
Departure
Sun · 5 July
👋 Final goodbyes and transfers back to Haarlem Spaarnwoude station. Safe travels and stay in touch! 💙 #SamenSterk
📌 Heads up: The exact daily schedule, including times and session details, will be shared in the online preparation meeting closer to the event. In the evenings there will also be cultural evenings: each country team gets to share their country with the group in a fun and creative way. Be ready for an active, full week!
